Forum Wrapping Up Presentations to School-Age Providers who Serve Children on Air Force Bases
Earlier this year, the United States Air Force contracted with the Children's Forum to conduct a series of presentations for school-age providers who serve children on 25 military bases around the country and worldwide. The presentations focused on teaching strategies and activities that are developmentally appropriate and suitable for small groups of multi-aged children. As of December 19, Jenn Faber, the Forum's Director of School-Age Services, hosted the trainings at 19 U.S. installations, plus three overseas, including Okinawa and Tokyo, Japan, as well as Frankfurt, Germany. Jenn's six remaining trainings include Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, Eileson Air Force Base and Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska, Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota, Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, and Longfellow Air Force Base, Texas.

Free Quality Standards Seminars Offered in Melbourne and Lakeland
The Florida Afterschool Network (FAN) has hosted 15 statewide seminars on the Florida Standards on Quality Afterschool Programs. Registration for two upcoming seminars in Melbourne (February 13) and Lakeland (February 27) is currently available. Participants will learn how to summarize the background and rationale for the Standards, describe their program's mission, purpose and goals, identify needs of children, families and staff members, cite examples of sound communication and interactions among children, families and staff, outline developmentally appropriate social, recreational and educational opportunities, summarize basic safety, health and nutrition environments, describe appropriate indoor and outdoor environments and recognize collaborative family and community opportunities
