Forum Publications and Resources
The provision of statewide child care and
early learning services are enhanced by the development
and dissemination of educational materials. Realizing
this, the Forum has designed, developed and produced
an impressive library of educational materials for
parents, providers, advocates, administrators and
businesses. These materials include research briefs,
booklets, brochures and pamphlets, flyers, handbooks,
resource packets, magazines, newsletters, online
materials, and more.
Child Care Health and Safety Handbook, 3rd Edition
The Forum is pleased to offer the third edition
of the Child Care Health and Safety Handbook. This
valuable resource is a must-use for staff of central
agencies, early learning coalitions, child care
health consultants, Head Start and Early Head Start
centers, child care providers and child care advocates
and will further the mutual goal of providing healthy
and safe child care environments for all of Florida's
children. This publication is made possible through
the Healthy Child Care America (HCCA) program of
the Health Resources and Services Administration
(HRSA), Maternal and Child Health Bureau, and the
Administration for Child and Families, Child Care

Orange County Research and Data Assessment
The Early Learning Coalition of Orange County contracted with
the Children's Forum to collect data, analyze and report on the
status of child care and early learning in the county in the
spring of 2006. The data and analysis provides the basis for
the development of future plans and priorities for the Coalition
guided by evidence-based practices to improve outcomes for

The Best We Can Be: Parents and Children Growing Together
The Best We Can Be: Parents and Children Growing Together is a
publication designed to provide support for life's most rewarding
and challenging job: parenting. This resource demonstrates how parents
can use everyday activities and materials for strengthening their
relationships with their children, promoting their early learning and
preparing them for success in school and in life. The sections are
coordinated with the first 14 well-child checkups and provide
age-appropriate advice for enriching the time spent with children to
facilitate their development in all domains. The publication is based
on the premise that "little moments lead to big rewards," and each page
ends with a "Big Rewards" section that gives parents the reasoning
behind the suggested activities. In addition, The Best We Can Be includes
tips for keeping children safe and healthy, as well as strategies for
dealing with the challenges that children's emerging skills can create
for parents. Each section ends with a "prescription" for parents,
inspired by the pediatric literacy program Reach Out and Read, which
encourages them to support their children's language and literacy
development through conversation and reading books together.

The 2002-2005 Technical Assistance Papers Series
The 2002-2005 Technical Assistance Paper Series is designed to advance
awareness, knowledge, skills, and understanding of theory and practice
in the field of child care and early education. The Series presents
topics of interest to practitioners, administrators, educators, trainers,
researchers, and students. Topics included in the Series represent issues
identified during the term of Florida's statewide School Readiness Quality
Initiative from 2002 to 2005 as significant to the day-to-day operations
of Florida's early learning coalitions. Other readers will find
information that may help to clarify areas of confusion, locate additional
information through use of the reference lists, or provide summarized text
to incorporate into grant applications or public education documents.

Florida Infant and Toddler Strategic Training Plan
Because the training and professional development of early childhood
professionals is directly related to the provision of quality infant
and toddler care, our goal is to coordinate all of the training
efforts for infants and toddlers in the state to ensure that gaps
are analyzed and resources maximized for the benefit of young
children. The purpose of the Strategic Training Plan is to identify
the training needs of Florida’s infant and toddler early childhood
teachers, coordinate the training delivery, establish a communications
system, and define goals that will lead future work efforts. This
document will remain a "living," working document because of the work
left to accomplish for infant and toddler care in Florida.
